Dance Performance Physical Therapist

As a performing arts physical therapist, my motivation in supporting growing movement artists is informed by my experience supporting dancers across the life-span in a variety of settings, and my own pursuit and career as a professional dancer myself.

I’ve been privileged to support dancers from youth to adolescent to adult in a variety of settings, including the community dance studio, in-house PT support in collegiate dance departments, and in the professional world in the concert, commercial, and theme park work environments.

Performing Arts Health & Wellness Educator

My efforts in the dance wellness and education realm in the last few years have included

  • Dance medicine conference presentations such as PAMA, IADMS, and DANCE/USA

  • Guest lectures at collegiate dance and dance science programs internationally and nationwide - Chapman University, Cal State Long Beach, Northwestern University, Trinity Laban.

  • Educational collaborations with dance organizations in the pre-professional ballet, the competitive dance circuit, and local dance studio communities - ABT Gillespie School, Debbie Allen Dance Academy, Laguna Dance Festival, Regional Dance America, American College Dance Association.

*In 2023, DANCE|PREHAB was awarded the 2023 Dance Educational Organization of the Year by IADMS (International Association of Dance Medicine and Science).

Kind Words

From dance families…

We are incredibly grateful for his methodology of transferring dance related concepts into therapeutic processes, ultimately getting our girl back to dance after multiple disc herniations in her lumbar spine. We also love that he gave her the mental clarity to achieve her recovery goals. He allowed her to acknowledge her mental resistance to challenges, while coaching her to change her mindset around that resistance - giving her the platform to explore therapeutic movement.

…to professional dancers…

I am a professional dancer and was doing a guesting in California during the summer. I began experiencing some foot pain, which worried me. Rob got me in so quickly and with his deep knowledge of not only the human anatomy but that of professional ballet dancers, I immediately felt comfortable. Secondly, he had connections within my dance world that he was willing to share with my usual physical therapists which proved to be exponentially helpful and made me feel the experience was personal and would go beyond just the couple of times that I needed to be treated with him. I CANNOT recommend this practice enough and I look forward to seeing Rob again in the future for maintenance!

… to everyday humans :)

Unlike past physical therapy experiences where the same movements were repetitively practiced, Dr. Tsai tailored every session to my specific needs. This personalized approach was a game-changer. I can now happily say that I’m back on my road bike and enjoying long-distance rides, lifting weights, and driving for extended periods without discomfort.
